North West Responds to Criticism Over Unique Fashion Choices

The 13-year-old has also countered suggestions that her style reflects her parents’ divorce.
North West, daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, has responded to critics of her distinctive fashion sense, which features a finger piercing, faux tattoos, and colored contact lenses. She garnered attention last year when she unveiled a goth-inspired look at the age of 12.
Recently, the teenager surprised her followers with facial piercings, ‘shark teeth’, and striking blue hair, which she paired with an array of dark outfits and spiked jewelry. While trying out new styles and makeup is common among teenagers, many felt compelled to comment on her appearance, with some asserting that she was overstepping boundaries at such a young age.

One expert even cautioned young fans against emulating North after she received a ‘particularly risky’ finger piercing.
In light of the ongoing discussions about her appearance, North, now 13, took to TikTok to confront her detractors, urging them not to ‘judge a book by its cover.’ During a livestream with her 45-year-old mother, she stated, “I’m not demonic guys, stop saying I’m demonic. No, I’m not. Just because I like to dress this way.”
When Kim suggested that the piercings and black grills might lead to such perceptions, North replied, “Yeah but I don’t know why you guys should put that with demonic because I don’t get that.”
To counter the rumors regarding her style choices, North explained that she chose to wear a white outfit for her performance at Chicago’s Vic Theatre last month to dispel notions of ‘that demon stuff.’

“I was like, if I’m going to do my first show ever, I gotta come like an angel, all white,” she shared. “Because you guys know I’m not on that demon stuff. I believe in Jesus. That’s how I came to show you guys I’m actually a light, not dark.”
The mother-daughter duo also addressed speculation that North’s style transformation was a reaction to her parents’ divorce. Kardashian remarked, “When she was a baby, dropping her off at school, all she wanted was… her septum pierced or her eyebrow pierced. She would do like a double brow, just like in pre-K, going in with fake piercings.”

North added: “So you guys can’t say, ‘where did the style come [from]?’, ‘is this style from the divorce?’ No, queen.”
Kardashian has previously tried to quell remarks about her daughter. Last November, after North showcased her ‘high-risk’ finger piercing, a TikTok user expressed concern, saying, “North West getting a finger piercing is breaking my heart, just me?” In response, Kardashian commented from the joint TikTok account she shares with North (@kimandnorth), saying, “It’s okay,” accompanied by a heart hands emoji.
Additionally, California law stipulates that individuals under 18 can only receive body piercings with parental consent and in the presence of a guardian, indicating that her mother approved of the decision.
