A man has been charged with murder following the tragic death of a pregnant woman, Samantha Natalie Phythian, discovered deceased in a burning van in Wales earlier this month.
The remains of Sammi, as she was affectionately known, were located in a van on Gas Works Lane in Prestatyn on October 4. During an inquest, John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, confirmed that the 35-year-old was pronounced dead at 11:30 PM and identified through DNA.
According to Dr. Brian Rodgers, a consultant pathologist from the Home Office, the preliminary cause of death was identified as ‘inhalation of smoke and fire gases’.

Thomas Matthew Hammond Bell, aged 38, has been charged with murder and is expected to enter a formal plea on November 27, with a trial anticipated in April next year. Additionally, a second man, aged 47, has been arrested, confirmed by North Wales Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Zoie Dunkerley remarked, “Our investigations into this incident are progressing rapidly, and we are examining all available information. Family Tribute
In a heartfelt tribute, Sammi’s family characterized her as a ‘much-loved mum, daughter, sister, auntie and friend’.

“Samantha, known to all as Sammi, will be remembered for the special place she held in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her. Her tragic and untimely death has left her family and friends devastated, struggling to cope with the loss of someone who meant so much to so many.”
They continued, “No family should have to endure such pain. Although her life was abruptly ended, the memories she created, the love she shared, and the lives she impacted will always be cherished. We kindly ask the public to be considerate and respectful regarding the rumors circulating on social media during this difficult time.”
